Every once in a while everyone needs to get away, a little escape from the daily life, looking for peace and nature, and all of this together with the dogs if possible. Indeed, this house is “dog-welcome”!

This lovely detached bungalow vacation house is located at the edge of the Sarvatorhoeve parc which is part of the creek area, so it is in the middle of nature.

The living room with the open kitchen is spacious, light and very cosy. For the dogs you can bring their own blankets or favourite pillows. This way, they will also feel at home in no time. There are two benches (one small, one midsized) which can be used, as well as a basket and drink- and feeding bowls.

There are two bedrooms, both provided with a double bed with drawers. Another room is used as a dressing. Here, you can store all of your clothes.

The bathroom is small but comfortable. There is a separate toilet available.

Right in between the living room and the hallway, which brings you to the bedrooms and the bathroom, a dog fence is placed.

The garden is a little paradise, completely fenced for the dogs at a height of approximately 1,2m. The garden is south-west orientated, which allows the sun to reach the garden all day long. Naturally, there are multiple spots and seats to sit down and enjoy the sunshine. Your privacy is ensured by the green surroundings of the accommodation.

The icing on the cake is the big field directly behind the house. The ideal place for the dogs to run around and play. From this point, you can make a little walk through the forest and reach the Eastern Creek, which is a beautiful place for a walk! Several hiking routes can be started from here.

In a 10 to 15-minute walk along the beautiful creek, you reach the Oosterschelde and the small beach of Ouwerkerk. The Oosterschelde is a beautiful place for hiking or cycling purposes!

If you would like to go shopping or enjoy a drink on a terrace, you can go to Zierikzee which can be reached by car in about 5 minutes!

Ouwerkerk is the oldest village of the former island of Duiveland which is a part of the island Schouwen-Duiveland these days. It will probably not surprise you that there is not only an “Ouwerkerk” but also a “Nieuwerkerk”. Both villages owe their name to the construction of the new church in what is now called Nieuwerkerk.

Ouwerkerk has a harsch history in which the medieval church tower was blown up during the Second World War. After the war, the 1953 North Sea floods striked the town again in which one out of six residents was killed. Also, many buildings were lost due to this natural disaster. The dike of Ouwerkerk was the last one to be fixed again after nine months since that particular night. The Watersnoodmuseum (Flood disaster museum) is now occupying the four caissons that were used for the reconstruction of the dike. It is one of the most important and famous attractions of the village which has tens of thousands of visitors each year.

Ouwerkerk is situated along the Oosterschelde, the biggest national park of the Netherlands, and is located closely to the old Dutch town of Zierikzee. It is characterised by its tides, wind and, especially, by lots of water. There is much to do in, on and around the water in this area. Except for mussels and oysters, there are also seals and porpoises that live here.

The southern coast of Schouwen-Duiveland is also called the “vogelboulevard” (bird boulevard) of Zeeland. Thousands, and sometimes even tens of thousands of waders, seagulls, geese, and ducks, stay here in the brackish swamp water. This therefore is a fantastic place for bird lovers. Walking or cycling along the Oosterschelde, you can enjoy the fresh air and the panoramic views of the vast land and water.

The inland of Schouwen-Duiveland is also perfectly suited for long cycling tours through a landscape that you will hardly find anywhere else in the country anymore. The many quiet country lanes take you along characteristic villages and offer you various safe cycling routes.

Forest- and beachlovers will also have a great time here. Apart from the long North Sea coast with its vast and broad sandy beaches, you will also find Zeeland’s largest forest here: the “Domeinen” which has one of the most beautiful mountain bike routes of the country.

In a range of only five kilometres, the town of Zierikzee can be found. For a relatively small town, it has a great number of monuments: no less than 568. The “Sint-Lievensmonstertoren” and the Noord- en Zuidhavenpoort, are the most important ones.

On the southwester side of Ouwerkerk you will find the most important part of the famous Delta Works, namely: the impressive Oosterscheldekering. This storm surge barrier connects the island Schouwen-Duiveland with the island Neeltje Jans, where you can visit the well-known family water park ‘’Deltapark Neeltje Jans’’.

The village of Ouwerkerk does not have many shops or entertainment facilities. For a more extensive offer of shops and businesses, you will need to visit neighbouring villages and towns.

The Old-Dutch towns Zierikzee, Veere and Middelburg or the other well-known seaside resorts: Renesse and Domburg are also worth paying a visit.

For more information about Ouwerkerk and its surrounding areas, we would like to refer you to the local tourist office.
