Moraira, a unique combination between authentic Spain and the liveliness of the Costa Blanca. You will not find any large hotels or apartment buildings here. Instead, you can experience Spanish uniqueness in all its glory. The village is situated directly by the Mediterranean Sea and has its own fishing harbour and marina.
The Costa Blanca is of course the place to be for sun, sea, and beach. The various coastal towns all have their own Spanish charm with vast (pebble) beaches, boulevards and terraces. Other popular seaside resorts in the area include Altea and Calpe. The latter is famous for the rock in the sea, the “Penyal d’Ifac”, its fishing harbour with fish market and its many fish restaurants. Looking for a bit more bustle? Benidorm is less than half an hour away by car. The clean and safe beaches have been awarded many times. You can not only enjoy the sun here, but also (water) sports activities such as volleyball, beach football, or water skiing (towed by the cable ski installation of the water-ski school).
Had enough of all that sand? Northwest of Moraira you will find the charming town of Benissa with behind it the beautiful “Jalón Valley”. This area is perfect for walking, mountain biking and horse-riding. The area is known for its vast vineyards. Around February, the entire area gets a soft pink hue from the many almond trees that blossom in this period. There is plenty to do for the entire family, such as theme parks and water parks in and around Benidorm. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy themselves in “Parque de Foietes” where you can play various ball sports, make use of the running track, or the Olympic size pool. Until the late hours, you and old can enjoy themselves in vibrant Benidorm.
Moraira has no less than eight different golden sand beaches you can choose from. The biggest and best-known beach is “Platja de l’Ampolla”. Moraira is also known for its excellent and numerous water sports facilities. The only “noteworthy sight” the town has is the “Castillo de Moraira”. You can find this landmark on the south side of the town centre. As it is rather small, it will take you no longer than about 15 minutes to see it in full. Coastal town Altea, which is more to the south, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the region. In the old town centre is the beautiful church “Virgin del Consuelo”. The square in front of the church offers a magnificent view over the town and its little white houses.
Moraira has a supermarket, a pharmacy, bakery, bike rental shop, and a wide variety of shops, restaurants and terraces. For those who would like to do some serious shopping, the bigger city of Alicante is less than an hour away by car.
